I looooove Christmas! Not the religious side of things, although happy that works for other people. What I love is the festivity of it all. The blingy decorations. Buying presents for people you love. The cheesey songs and even cheesier movies. It feels like such a positive way to end the year.
Christmas Craft
So this year I thought I’d have a go at a craft project for Christmas. It’s been ages since I really indulged in some crafting. I had a vague idea of what I wanted to do. But no idea if I could pull it off!
As we live by the sea I thought for Christmas only I’d go with a real coastal vibe. When we bought our house the previous owners had overdone the seaside feel. We had seagull stickers on a shower screen. A Boat shared storage unit. Pictures of crabs and ‘This Way to the beach’ signs all over the house. As a result we pretty much banished all sea related stuff.
I have a huge bag of oyster shells in the studio that I have saving for something, without really knowing what that something might be. So I thought I’d see how they looked when painted.

I went for a black and white check pattern which was a lot more fiddley than I expected and paired it with some Christmas bling in the form of gold spray paint.
The painted shells actually looked pretty good and my initial thought was to use them as little trinket or ring holders. But I had so many I thought I’d have a go at making a wreath for the door.
Fixing them proved to be tricky but thanks to half a bottle of gorilla glue they seem pretty stuck and I have spares should any fall off. A bit more sparkle in the form of gold wire and beads and its done!

Just need to work out how to fix it to the front door!
If anyone has any other ideas for oyster shell craft projects let me know as I still have a big bag of shells and my husband adds to these each week!
