Often in the process of painting I will work on multiple pieces at once. This approach works for me as it allows me to stand back from images and that distance often provides the head-space to really assess what’s working and what’s not. Inevitably, it often results in lots of discarded paintings where I don’t feel I can resolve the whole into an image I’m happy with but there are often small sections that I love.
All of the work in this collection started out as much bigger paintings that I was unable to resolve so have retained only the sections that I thought worked as smaller pieces. Most end up being incorporated into other works as collage but when I have a few that sit together as a possible collection of mini paintings I like to explore how these look.
