Building on the techniques I learned on the recent course I completed I thought I’d start experimenting with some freer form creative challenges.
The first I wanted to try was creating an abstract image with a strong cohesive feel. To get the cohesion I selected fabric samples of similar colours and tonal values which I extending into the selection of threads using only variations of beige and brown.
I also used the repeated shape technique although in the loosest sense, cutting each into rectangles or square shapes. For the stitching I used back stitch, mock herringbone and running stitch and I also added texture with couching.
Overall I like the finished piece – its a bit simple and a bit obvious but visually it works well.
