Jean Goulden Jean Dunand

Jean Goulden

I came across this picture in an Art Deco book and it caught my eye – not only do I love clocks and watches but I also love Art Deco as a movement.

Created by Jean Goulden who was born on this day in 1878 in Charpentry, France,  Goulden was actually a doctor of medicine, and worked as a military doctor during the first World War. It was while he was travelling in this role that he came across Byzantine art in Macedonia, inspiring him when he returned to Paris, to set up his own workshop where he became best know as a  a decorative artist, particularly his stunning enamels.
