In 1923 the American pop artist Roy Fox Lichtenstein was born.  His work defines the pop movement, inspired by comic strip artwork and newspaper print techniques his creations are a tongue in cheek take on the advertising age.  Ironically his creations have inspired numerous brands logos and advertising campaigns.

In 1932 Sylvia Plath was born – US poet and novelist

In 1954 – Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio were divorced and  the first Walt Disney television show “Disneyland” premiered on ABC.

In 1968 Police in the Uk clashed with anti-war protestors as  an estimated 6,000 marchers demonstrating against the Vietnam War face up to police outside the US Embassy in London.

In 1970 Freda Payne was No.1 with Band of Gold – my ear worm for the day
