In 1890: American artist Man Ray was born. Born Emmanuel Radnitzkyhe spent most of his career in France. Generally known for his Dada and surrealist creations. He produced major works in a variety of media but considered himself a painter above all. He was best known for his photography, and he was a renowned fashion and portrait photographer.
In 1965 Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, known as Le Corbusier died. A Swiss architect and designer, he was one of the pioneers of modern architecture.
In 1970: Elvis Presley was No.1 in the UK charts with “The Wonder of You”
In 2008: Barack Obama became the first African-American to be nominated by a major political party for President of the United States
