On This Day in History……

A German-British painter Frank Auerbach was born on this day in 1931.

A gifted artist who created portraits and city scenes of London the city he made his home after being sent to the UK by his parents in 1939.



In 1916 after six days of fighting, Irish rebel leaders abandoned the post office in Dublin and surrendered , marking the end of the Easter Rising.

In 1945 Dachau concentration camp was liberated by United States troops

In 1958 the Broadway musical, My Fair Lady, opened in London

In 1990 we witnessed (well those of us old enough to recall) wrecking cranes  tearing down the Berlin Wall at the Brandenburg Gate

In 2011 Prince William married Kate Middleton at Westminister Abbey
